Directional Boring offers a cost competitive alternative to trenching. Directional boring involves the creation of a precisely guided pilot hole. This process directs the drill bit and drill head to specified exit point, either at the surface or in a manhole or exit pit. Directional boring first gained popularity in the telecom installation markets. Deteriorating water and sewer systems usually found in well- established urban or suburban areas, makes traditional excavation difficult, if not possible. Advances in technology and a growing acceptance of the trenchless construction process by engineers, directional boring is making new installations faster and easier.

Pipe and conduit construction has traditionally involved digging a trench, then laying pipe or conduit and finally covering it back up. Excavation can be disruptive; damaging surface improvements and impeding traffic. Once pipe or conduit is laid in the ground, the repair of streets, driveways, sidewalks and landscaping can be time consuming and costly.
Benefits of Directional Boring:
Reduces surface damage and repair costs
Improved access to confined installation sites
Minimizes disruption to area businesses, pedestrians, vehicle traffic and residents
Reduces pipe settling problems
Improves installation speed and efficiency
Reduces costs
Proven, effective technique for new installations and replacement projects
